Pecos Kiva

Pecos National Historical Park

The Pecos National Historical Park, near Santa Fe, New Mexico, offers several kivas that visitors
may access by climbing down primitive ladders. It Might Be Interesting to Know: I actually went
to see the mission ruins and hadn't anticipated the kivas and therefore didn't carry a tripod
(MUST do better homework!). This shot was hand held and even with a stabilization lens really
pushed the limits of steadiness (yes, it's just a bit blurred at a 1/2 second exposure time!).
It would be very interesting to go back and shoot this again with a tripod using multi-exposure
HDR (high dynamic range) techniques. For more information about the Pecos National Historical
Park, please visit www.nps.gov/peco.

@Julia: It was actually far darker than this image suggests. Coming down the ladder from ground level, it was "can't see the floor" dark, and was still dim even after my eyes adjusted.

Looks kind of eerie in there
