I've been trying to step away from strobes for some times now. Since the weather is getting warmer outside, I'll be working more with natural light and reflectors. I've got a second hand collapsible 32" 5-in-1 reflector and a really nice convertible lightstand/boom arm/reflector holder that I bought a few years back.

It's probably the most versitile lightstand I own. It's also the biggest, so sometimes it gets left at home. Hopefully not this summer.
Ian was outside, working on getting those leg muscles built up on his bike this afternoon, after his homework was done, so I tackled him down for a minute to pose for a shot that didn't blast a strobe in his face. The reflector was positioned in a way that the fill was coming from underneath. I hoped that it wouldn't be too harsh, but he still seemed to squint a little bit. The 4:30-ish afternoon sunlight was shining down on Ian's left shoulder with the reflector to his lower right. Shooting 85mm at a uber-shallow dof of f/2.2, my lawn became a nice green blur.
I like this shot a lot and hope to work more natural light portraits this summer.
