I think your view of the blue headlight housings as "eyelids" is wonderful. And now, when I look at this image, those "eyelids" dominate the image. What an eye YOU have, Merri!

I am aware these trucks are the pride and joy of their owners. Is it any surprise then that this one in particular has been given eyelids (painted blue!) to protect its headlight eyes?

I'm certain of the locals pride in the handbuilt truck with the many decorations - maybe the decorations are to ward off the effects of that leaky radiator!

To us, it might seem like a Christmas decoration. To Indians, such garlands are simply festive touches, in this case probably added to celebrate Holi, the Festival of the Colors.
