House of the Vettii. This magnificent house was owned by two brothers who
were wealthy merchants. They obviously enjoyed the best that money could buy,
with superb murals (some risque) and tilework. In this Atrium, a lead pipe
water supply system is easily seen. Pompeii is an extraordinary site, and
displays many astounding 'modern' building principles. Although this house
was buried during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79AD, it survived better than most.
