DSCN0038.jpg

This appears to be the breccia pipe, remains of a collapsed cave filled with sediments at mile 3, that Hiking Grand Canyon's Geology refers to. Apparently these collapsed caves are the sites of mines elsewhere in the park, because the chemical conditions were just right for metals to crytalize out as ground water pasted through with sediments from volcanoes.
