My only attempt to capture the upper trails switch backs, the wall blocks the bright sunlight.
I had hoped to capture some of the examples of the geology, at this point I had already passed yellow and white cherts from sponges in the Kaibab limestone, evaporites in teh Toroweap formation and cross beads of the Cocnino Sandstone. This is probably the brick red mudstone of the Hermit Formation? Which should contain "lenses" of sandstone from channels from ancient streams.
The lingering snow here was solid above. I had hoped to rent some step in crampons here. But the online information was incorrect about rentals (so was the information in my room). And they had sold out of anything in my size, except luckily outside the park some expensive Microspikes ($60). I had some YakTracs but many people told me they break easily, so I bought the Microspikes for back up.!
I also got a RatSack rather than use my paint cans. This shopping seem to eat up most of two days before my hike.
