3/18/08 - Red Vortex

Those are not concentric rings but, rather, a continuous spiral.
Most viewers would have no clue what this is - nor should they (care). Photographers, however, are a curious bunch always yearning to ask - What is that? - or - How did you do that? For the curious, What? - It's a red neon slinky lit with black light. - and How? Point the camera (on tripod) straight down at the floor; wrap the slinky around the outside of the lens and allow the slinky to drop to the floor. After you straighten everything up so that you're looking right down the center (about 3 feet from lens to floor) this is what you get. Focused about mid-way (near the 18-200 lens' minimum focus distance); shot aperture priority with a -7/3 EV (at 0 EV the image has blown out highlights) and Auto WB - oh, almost forgot, and a remote shutter release without which the slinky will jiggle when you press the camera's shutter release. Few things are a simple as they appear.

Yowza! So different, and very intriguing. (Both slinky shots.)
