I was happy to be able to get some shots of one of the
Frekings' Sibes being cared for at the dog lot after
being "dropped" from the race. This dog looked bright,
chipper, energetic, tail up and wagging, jumping/crawling
from one side of the fence to the other... I can't wait to
hear why he was "dropped". I suspect he pulled one over on
his musher! He certainly didn't look tired or strained in
any way! He was babied as were all the other dogs in the
lot, first being checked AGAIN by another vet, and then offered
warm straw and the brightest, fuzziest blanket possible.
From here the dogs either go to the handlers after they are called
to come pick them up, or to the women's prison in Anchorage to
be cared for until the race is over. They have their system down!
These dogs are better cared for than most athletes or clients at
upscale spas!

And oh yes, I heard this handler being told that she could let the
dog get down and walk, and she said "I know"... I think she just
wanted a snuggle! He certainly was walking just fine!!!!
