I know what you mean about this lens, Doug...I have the same one. In addition to the clarity issues, I'm bothered by the purple fringing around really bright spots such as the sun reflections on the ice. I've found that closing the aperture to about f/8.0 sometimes produces better quality. Good luck in your quest for a better lens. I'd like to know what you finally decide on.

Thanks Carole. Beyond the crop was just a little curves and levels adjustments. I was set on a carry around lens like the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 Di II. Now I'm thinking that I might save that $400 and put it towards a prosumer quality lens that opens up to f2.8. If only I could get my money tree to bare fruit. -Doug
This is great Doug, even if it is a little soft - nice composition, good exposure and nice leading lines. We get so used to seeing ultra sharp shots we are dissatisfied with anything less, but everything doesn't have to be razor sharp! What PP did you do? Maybe just increasing contrast a bit and a little USM might do the trick for you. What lens is this and what are you looking to buy? CJ

Same location as my previous picture, This is the one I wanted to work. I wanted it so bad I posted it despite the fact that it's soft. This was half way across the frozen pond and used all 300mm of my lens. It serves well to prove to myself that a lens upgrade is in the future. -Doug
