Thanks Jo. This is one of my earlier shots when I first started doing hummers and didn't know what settings worked. If there is enough light I prefer a little more DOF to try and get the whole body in focus and about 1/800 sec. If using a flash you can use slower shutter speeds, but it is tricky. I have used up to 1/1600 sec and the wings are not stopped. I'm not even trying to do that, as I think some indication of motion is desireable. I don't know for sure, but I read somewhere that it would require at least 1/8000 sec to completely freeze the wings. You would need some kind of blinding white light to be able use that kind of shutter speed. ; ) Lora

Wow what a shot and it fits the challenge very well with the wings hiding the head. I like the colors in this image very much. Not only the hummingbird itself but also the background. Seeing the exposure time and the wings still showing movement I am curious what shutter time you have to use to freeze the wings. Great shot.
