4th Place (tie)
Ghost Town Sunset
by Franky2005

If you look closely you can see that the houses are very much closed already. The village will be torn down completely for an open pit mine.

And the end it will all look like the scene that I had shown some time before on STF, which is less than half a mile away only:

There were lots of discussions whether to continue with all this. The people from the village are provided with new housing a few miles away.
Also cemeteries have been moved. Still it will not be the same.

Such a well crafted image, just enough golden hour warmth to make the predominate cold desolateness tolerable. Some rays of hope...probably not. Lora

The beauty of this to me, as in so many of your images, is that it looks like the very first or very last shot of a very good movie.

Sad, and yet beautiful, Frank. I love the sheen on the street, suggestine lots of use over the ages. The buildings look well-kept. Very nice image!
What a shame that it will soon be one huge scar in the earth's crust. Seems that the powers that be aren't very environmentally-conscious in this area...

Love your composition Frank and those golden sun-rays are just gorgeous!

The death of one's home is not worth all the pit mines in the world. Thanks for reminding us of what is important with such a well excecuted image. Dale

You sure got the right moment to take this image: wonderful light and, BTW , a good composition as well! -- db.

Just what we need - another open pit mine. The light and shadow are appealing here...sad and beautiful...jrdu

Gorgeous light there, Frank, and a super composition overall! I can really appreciate you capturing something that's soon to get torn down, in the end this image will become unique and unrepeatable. Great stuff!... Martin

Frank - a vanishing treasure. You've created an eye-pleasing scene with excellent use of lighting. Only a few days ago I participated in a discussion involving the disappearance of many photographic relics from the past that are swiftly vanishing and your excellent photo reminded me of such.

A sad and desolate feeling place, that feels cold even while the warnth of the sun hits the buildings. The lightplay down the depth of the street, and the shadows playing in the doorways and windowsills highlight the starkness of the street.
