Plain Chachalaca 072

San Ygnacio, Texas

This is a fairly common, but rarely seen bird found in river and stream woodland tracts in the Rio Grand Valley of Texas. It is the northern fringe of this bird which is in the family of tropical guans.
Today a group of about 20 came to a feeding station at the San Ygnacio Bird Sanctuary. This is a little known area which provides food and habitat for birds and butterflies, and observation trails along the Rio Grande River for the bird and butterfly watchers.
