Kodiak Island is about an hour's flight south west of Anchorage. Biggest fishing port in the USA. Katmai Wilderness Lodge is then an hour's flight by floatplane back across the Shelikof Strait. KWL is in Katmai National Park, but no roads go there and the only way in is by floatplane
