Note on the next nine pictures: These are all related to the Los Quinchos projects which were begun to help street kids. Street kids became a problem in the mid-1980s when the fledgling Sandanista government turned its attention to fighting the contras and was unable to pursue public programs. Los Quinchos is not the only group working with these kids; there are a dozen or more organizations, but this is the one supported by ProNica.
The photo is of Los Quinchos director Carlos Vidal with his first grade teacher who proudly says he was her best student. She now helps with Los Quinchos by running the new little library in San Marcos. Carlos is a wonderful, animated, creative and effective director. I don't know how he keeps everything moving. He administers, I think, 7 different properties, all with multiple activities in progress for the roughly 300 boys and girls in the program.
