Young cows out on the town. Cows are apt to be seen anywhere. We passed a lone cow eating its way down a narrow (3 or 4 feet wide) median on a four-lane road going into Managua. She was totally unperturbed by the vehicles zooming past. Virtually all cattle are Brahmin, due to their tolerance for heat and drought. In August after three months of rainy season, livestock looked lean but healthy; from November to May there is no significant rainfall and cattle and horses struggle to survive unless their owners are wealthy enough to provide supplemental feed.
