"Devastation" Wanda 08_10_07

This is pretty much the image I had in my head for the forest fire photograph. I wanted a powerful pose for Wanda standing and looking over the fire damage. She had to be as naked and lain bare as the earth and trees.

For those that may wonder there is little to no Photoshop manipulation of this image. I used the white balance for tungsten lights, dropped the exposure to get as little blown highlights as possible (yeah the hair is still a little blown out). I slightly desaturated the blue but not much. Then it was just resize and slightly sharpen for the web.

Here is one from today I just coverted to a B&W

This is the best of the burnt series.I love the light on the branches, and the pose is dead on.

Bill... I've enjoyed and admired your photos for some time. But this series is something special. You've brought us scenes out of mythology - the fury and tenderness of the Earth Mother. I can't decide which I love better - the foreboding blue-lit photos in which the land, the trees, and Wanda herself smolder with barely contained force - or the calm, sunlit photo of Wanda placidly reaching down to touch the new green shoots. Even among your many other great images, these stand out. My compliments to you both.

Amazing Bill. This is an extremely powerful shot! The sharp majesty of a once mighty tree in contrast against a majestic beauty with soft curves. The barren tree, devoid of its leafy crown against the bare beauty with her long flowing tresses. This photo is not only a great work of art, it also tells a remarkable story. Absolutely stunning!

This is the best of the bunch. The technique you used gives an excellent "moonlit night" feel. Beautiful job.
