Great Egret spend considerable time preening to keep their feathers clean. This is especially true during the breeding season when they have beautiful plumage just for the occasion. Its like they dress up to go to a party. This photo is one of my favorites because there is a small shaft of light coming through the mangroves that highlight the head and extended wing.
