7/9/07 - Black Eyed Susans

Images are stronger when the main subject stands out from the crowd. I prefer to accomplish this through lighting and contrast - usually by making the main subject brighter & sharper than the rest. Nik Color Efex Pro's Grad Neutral Density helps with the light/dark in this case. If the subject were nearer the center I would have used the Nik Darken/Lighted Center. The Nik Blur Vignette can help throw things near the frame out of focus if you weren't able to do that in camera using DOF. For this image I used the GND to slightly darken the top relative to the bottom of the image; the rest is as it came from the camera (plus a lot of crawling around on my knee pads and making teeny tiny adjustments of the camera position/angle on the tripod - 5 minutes composing; 1/80 sec shooting).
The intended eye movement is in at the bottom right (bright/sharp) flower, diagonally up/left to the supporting background flower; down on the left through the two buds, and back to the beginning.
