We have black squirrels all over Le Claire Iowa which is a small river town on the Mississippi, I rarely see the more common red squirrels, this is a beautiful combination of the two! Great shot.

I saw a black squirrel last summer on the Frio River in Central Texas. A couple of months ago I saw one that was "normal" fox squirrel colored from the middle of his back to the tip of the tail, and black from the middle of his back to the tip of his nose. No one I have spoken with has ever seen one! I'm so excited to see this one here!

Thank you for proving that they exist! I saw quite a few of these in Toronto, but the little blighters were too quick for me to get a decent picture, so no-one would believe me when I told them I'd seen black squirrels with orange tails! There were even a few where the coloured fur looked like trousers or a waistcoat. This was when I started getting funny looks. But you've proved me right -YAY!
