This is for the guest whose grandparents lived at 1535 Walton Avenue. I lived there from 1948 to 1964. My parents continued to live there after that. I bet I knew your grandparents. Who were they? I lived in 4G.

My grandparents lived at 1535 Walton Avenue from around 1940 to 1973. Before that, 39 Marcy Place in 1930(bldg is no longer there) and 1635 Selwyn Avenue in 1936 (not sure if bldg is still there). Their 2 bedroom apartment was really big with a HUGE foyer. Wish I had an apartment that size! I think when they moved out, their rent was about 150.00. I saw the Ten Commandments at the Surrey in 1972 or so and remember some type of park in the middle of Mt. Eden.

View in alleyway on Walton Avenue and looking south toward Townsend Avenue. The two story red brick building on the left side is a private home. Adjacent to this home is a new school build (PA 170). The photo shows three stories of the building, however, my family lived on the top floor (5th floor) and the small window is a bathroom window. The first windows by the fire escape are kitchen windows. Our front windows overlooked Townsend Avenue and 174th Street/Featherbed Lane and Jerome Avenue (Subway line).
