Very clever!

Doug, this is a partial desat:-)

I guess I'm in the minority as I do enjoy a selective desaturation, especially when done to create subject isolation. I maybe would have tried only a partial desaturation though. -COAmature

I'm not a big fan of partial desats but this seems to work well for this shot as it helps draw the eye away from the nose which was too prominant in the original. Great reflection shot Fred! CJ

Hmmm... I'm not sure how I feel about the selective desat. It certainly makes the nose less prominent, but now he looks like "the great stone face." Nevertheless, the reflection is great.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Rod, this one isn't very good in full color either I'm afraid.
Cheers!

I really don't like the look of selective desats I think it spoils this shot which looks like it could have been a goodun. Well done for the view in the glasses which looks very good:-)

Selective desaturation works very well here.

Great framing, love the use of selective desaturation

I think this works quite well Fredman and Mary Anne suggested a great tweak for the image. You really did a nice job lining up all the angles in the reflection and picking a nice scene to reflect as well.

Thanks, Mary Anne. You're right. I made a new version with selected color and some Gaussian blur on the nose and background.

I think it's a good take on the topic, and the reflection is well done. I just find the pores on the nose to be distracting. I'm wondering if it would look better if you softened or desaturated that area a bit. Do you have other shots that aren't so close?
