Mauna Loa Silverswords

Upper Waiakea Forest Reserve

7 silverswords resting safe in their little meadow. This image gives you an idea of their size - the largest silversword in the exclosure was just a foot across. There were 20-25 silverswords, and one was nearly dead. They grow slowly, until they're large enough to flower spectacularly once before dying.
