Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - (a yard lifer 2007)

This is an interesting bird. It belongs to the woodpecker family and drills small holes into the tree bark. He's really quite neat and tidy as the holes are lined up in rows.He feeds on the sap as well as the insects that are attracted to the sap. Hummingbirds like to build their nests near these birds so that they can have access to nectar all summer.Photo quality not great in spite of zoom lens as bird was quite high in the tree.
