Open Mouth *

I had laser assisted uvuloplasty surgery for my loud snoring and possible sleep apnea. The doctor cut my uvula out. I took some pictures at different times as I was healing to see the progress. I just saw the title of this month's CTF challenge, and thought that this picture looked particularly perfectly awful and would be a good one to submit.

I used a Raynox DCR250 Super Macro Lens, a custom paper flash diffuser and an LED flash light for focusing.

It was a particularly hard picture to take because the camera needed to be on it's side and moved to the side so the flash could get into my mouth and I had to concentrate on the position of my tongue, the position of the camera, the focal point of the camera, feel for and press the buttons at an awkward angle, and avoid breathing because it fogged up the lens.

This is so interesting! Did it stop the snoring? I've heard of other remedies to reduce snoring, but not this.

All you need to do to get my vote mate is to now crop up the the bottom of the teeth. It will make a great high key panorama type shot. Below the teeth there's no photographic merit wotsoever:-)

I tried cropping a bit of the teeth out.
How is it now?

Sorry, this is just too gross for me and I don't care to look at it closely. Hope to see some more pleasant viewing shots from you in the future Dylan :-)

Sometimes body parts are gross and this is one of those... gag (literally) lol. I'm sure it was a hard image to take.... and certainly hard to look at also :) Cutting off the very top of the teeth would make this less bright and still do the trick. jano

Dylan reckons that
""The codeine also gives me mood swings, sleeping problems, nightmares, and physical problems.""
I have experienced the same symptoms since viewing this shot:-)

Looks like a case of Thrush on that tongue too! ;-) CJ

I have more pictures that are zoomed in farther, but this picture stood out from the rest with a strong emotional response.
The other pictures are at:

I couldn't seem to post a comment with a full URL in it.
I think it was the codeine that made me post this picture here.
The codeine also gives me mood swings, sleeping problems, nightmares, and physical problems.

This must be a good photo Dylan as it has touched off alot of viewer emotions. My only * would be that purple fringing in upper right corner :-)) Rich

Yes Dylan, I think the codeine went to your head to tempt you to take this shot! ;-) OK, technically, the teeth are way too bright and I would be remiss in my duties as the assistant crop queen (Sharon's # !) if I didn't suggest that for a good image for a medical textbook or periodical, cropping out the teeth and focusing on the surgical area might make a better picture. Show this to your surgeon. He may want to write an article about his procedure and submit it for publication with your image, or at least use it to instruct his other patients about the procedure, especially if this works for your problem. On the otherhand he may have a zillion pictures like this and chuck it in the round file! ;-) Good luck! CJ

I agree Christina:-) just did't fancy looking at it all week:-)

It is really hard to look at... but it fits the spirit of the challenge. Sorry Rod! I'm not counting teeth here, otherwise I'd also have to count eyelashes, and fingernails and all that. Not to mention all pics of people smiling would be out.

Ewwwwwww but good macro inside your mouth :)

I nearly fall on the floor laughing every time I see this image and read the comments, especially with it sticking out like a sore thumb from all of the beautiful images. It still hurts to laugh. The liquid codeine I was prescribed also has a lot of nasty side effects on my mind and body.
Rod 07-Feb-2007 08:04
Oh my gawd I think I would rather look up someone's nose than this, its gross:-)
It's lucky that there's more than three body parts here so we may not have to look at it for too long...........I hope:-)

OMG - That's quite an image! Hope the surgery helped! CJ

Wow! This is definitely a part of the body I wasn't sure we'd see. Thanks for sharing the details of it as well!
