The Mahkeme Hamam.
Also named ‘Ibrahim Paşa Hamamı’, after the man who commissioned it: Çandarlı Ibrahim Paşa, who was a Grand Vizier (prime minister, from 1421 to1429) of sultan Murad II.
It was a ‘double bathhouse’, with a distinct section for women, which had his separate entrance.
Often the women’s hamam is smaller than the men’s section, but this was not the case here: no discrimination this time. On the contrary: the women’s hamam was slightly larger than the men’s, but its interior was less ornamented.
The facility has been thoroughly restored in 2012. The women’s section became a hamam again, open to women only; the men’s section has been installed as a Cultural Center.
