When I heard the sandstone fins and valleys call to me (previous photo) I was compelled to answer
the call by exploring them. To gaze upon a feature of the landscape is often not enough: I must
know what lies behind that feature and what it feels like to be in or on it. Seeing the same thing
from different angles helps me form a mental map of the landscape. In this other-worldly place,
where everything looks like everything else, the mental map acts as a navigation aid.
Ornament Rock, seen in earlier photos, is dead center; it sits atop a long, narrow fin. The right
end of that fin is the location of the previous photo. The next shot is a closer view of this one.
