Most of us were still in the old sailor uniforms as the service transitioned to the new blue uniform. One event that happened during our two-week training period was our Commander-in-Chief Richard Nixon announcing his resignation the following morning, August 9, 1974. Vice President Gerald Ford was sworn in as President the following day.
