April Fool by Flick Merauld
by kodak_challenge

This is part of the Rollrights, a Neolithic stone circle in the Cotswold Hills, England.
On April Fool's Day two or three years ago (I forget exactly when) somebody senselessly and deliberately daubed almost every stone with yellow paint.
The Rollright Trust appealed to the National Trust for help in removing the paint, as it wasn't possible to do so easily without destroying the lichen colonies on the stones.
To date, there is still considerable residue of paint left.
A stupid and pointless act of vandalism has spoiled people's enjoyment of this ancient monument, and will probably do so for some time into the future.
What sort of world are we living in?!

But in case you have doubts Flick, they are visable and I like the way they off set the sadness of the vandalism on the ancient stones. You know with luck, these stones will carry on long after that yellow paint has been beat away by weather but, dang that is so maddening!!! That is one of the things that gets me angry the most is defacing of property or nature. It is a mentality that I will never ever understand. If they weren't already so stupid maybe they could see how stupid their act was. :o( You did a wonderful job of expressing the sadness of the situation with your very beautiful photo. Thanks so much Flick for entering this.

That's very interesting. My ex husband was colourblind, but with him it was tones that he got muddled: for example, he would see a pink and a brown garment the same tone, and he would be unable to say what colour each was.
Don't worry, the poppies aren't important.
Flick.

Sorry, I didn't. But that doesn't mean they are not clearly visible for someone else. I am a little colorblind. Red is a difficult color for me, especially when I have to distinguish little red spots in a black and white picture

Thanks for your observations.
Did you see the little red splotches of poppies too?

Sadly there are people who have no respect for the cultural and historic heritage of a country and the people who live and have lived there. I like the composition of this picture. And to make this a black and white and yellow is a very good choice.
