16th November 2006 - shame or glory?

This is the debacle that is our supposed national stadium at Wembley. It’s what? Eighteen months behind schedule and is still not, apparently opening until next year (and even then there are enough doubts over its completion that William Hill are offering odds of only 7:2 against it being finished). Rumours abound over the extent of the problems and there are certainly a couple of big court cases between erstwhile partners pending. It’s all very messy indeed. Apparently there have been unforeseen problems with the building sinking into North West London’s Victorian sewers, oh and the roof collapsing and all sorts of other mishaps and misdemeanours if the news reports are to be believed. That’s all pretty shameful if you ask me.

However, it is an impressive sight, towering in a different way entirely from the twin towers it replaced over the city. You can see it from literally miles away. Ray said he’d seen it from the London Eye. It’s huge and glorious in that respect.

This shot was taken from the window of an office on the third floor of our company’s building on the Hanger Lane Gyratory system, which seems not to do much gyrating these days as mostly it’s clogged up with stinky traffic, all of the cars and lorries with occupants who wish they were anywhere but in Hanger Lane.

I have been to these offices today, after a morning in my own office in Epsom, for a meeting with a business partner with whom we’re launching a new service in a couple of weeks and we’ve been planning our launch party.

Although I was introduced to the chap I met today at our Chelsea event recently, on that day it was a quick handshake and ‘hello’ then on to something else. I had a chance to really speak with him today. I must say, he turned out to be a really nice chap with such a wonderful ‘can-do’ attitude that I liked him immediately. I know this new launch will be a success.

We were discussing the plans for the launch and were talking about the promotional materials we would need and the subject of the Chelsea materials came up. I said I’d done them myself and he was hugely impressed and said he’d thought at the time they were some of the best materials he’d seen. I was ‘a bit chuffed’ to say the least and have come away with the agreement that I will do the ones for this too……now that is something to be proud of.

Last year, I was watching the very glorious talent of Mr Richard Hawley.

No archway, however grand, will ever replace the glory of the twin towers of Wembley!!

....and talking of Richard Hawley, it'll soon be time to see him again (29th)!
I wonder if they'll ever light up the arch like a rainbow......

Colin.
