There’ll be national elections soon in the Netherlands. Only humans can vote.
There’s a new party called ‘Partij voor de Dieren’ (Party for animal rights).
They’re hoping to win one or more seats in Dutch parliament.
When it started this party seemed like a great idea.
But doubts have come up among Dutch animal friends. The Partij voor de Dieren is a ‘one issue
party’, it seems to have no interest in other problems. All it cares for is animal affairs.
That’s fine with me, but most Dutch humans believe this would never work.
Even my human is not so sure this party is worth his vote. For instance: to talk about Dutch
support to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq only in terms of the animal situation over there
seems strange to him. (not to me). Or to talk about national health and education only in
terms of vetenerian costs and dog schools would not do for him (it would for me).
So we disagree.
