In the 60's and 70's, hippies from the USA and UK used Istanbul as their jumping off spot as they went in search of Nirvana (and industrial strength Hashish) in Afghanistan and Nepal. In Istanbul, The Pudding Shop is where they would gather, even leaving messages for friends on a bulletin board. those days are long gone.
