Humanitarian aid

near Zenica, Bosnia

These girls were refugees at a camp near Zenica. Charitable organizations had sent them clothes, and there was a huge box of dresses like this, which these two girls found very amusing. They kept changing into different frilly dresses and presenting themselves to me to be photographed. You could say the dresses weren't an appropriate form of aid to refugees, but the kids were bored stiff and the dresses gave them a lift. I saw boxes of medical supplies in Sarajevo with the WW2 swastika and eagle symbol, a gift from the krauts. Hey, bandages last!

In Bosnia and Herzegovina situation was so desperate that they accepted ANY humanitarian aid, even if in the practice great deal of it was unusable junk, spoiled food or expired drugs and medicals...

Many western europe countries profited by sending their dangerous and expensive to destroy medical junk, like some drugs that need special care and procedure when disposing and destroying them, bcos you cannot just burn them in the open...

From the krauts, certainly,in the first days of war,it seems so,that only they could understand what was going on..
