A male Northern Cardinal perches in a tree at Sharon Woods Metro Park near Columbus, Ohio. The Cardinal
is missing the black feathers from its face (the second Cardinal I've seen like that in two weeks) and appears
to be having some problems with feathers on its back. I posted the image on birdforum.net hoping the experts
there could tell me what was happening to the Cardinal. The best guess is that it is either molting or has a mite
infestation, which is common this time of year. Additional bird images are in my Birds and Animals gallery.
