This is near the start of the trail to the top. The Dome is much larger and steeper than it looks here. The trail actually goes about 3/4 ths the way around, but climbing in the woods most of the way, then it climbs up the backside of the dome. One of the shots in yosemite gallery is from the top of this dome.

It is odd that if you start on this trailhead you travel opposite the travel of those who start at the Dog Lake trailhead. One of the groups is going further then they have to?
