The Oesberg ship was excavated in 1904, and restored by Frederik Johannessen, a naval engineer.
The restoration contains 90% of the orginal timber.
Though the ship is a burial, thee are traces of wear that show that she was a utilitarian vessel, and not built expressly for the burial.
The ship was built ca. AD 815-820, and luxuriouslly outfitted as a burial for two important women aged about 20 and 30.
