Note the springboard cuts in the cedar trunk. A plank was placed into the cuts, on which typically two loggers would fall the tree by hand a 6 foot (or longer) cross-cut saw. Years have passed since this tree was cut down. Now small firs are growing on the top of the cedar "mother" tree, the start of a new forest.
