Enjoyed seeing this image, which had little meaning to me in my days at college. I recently read in the "Netherlanders of America" (Jocob Van Hinte), that the Holland Society made this statue as a gift to the city of New York, "but New York refused it's gift, a replica of the statue of William the Silent in the Hague. The gift was tucked away for awhile in an obscure corner of Van Cortlandt Park and finally given to Rutger's College".
