The summit of the volcano is shrouded in clouds most of the year. The heavy rains during the "Green Season" (i.e., the rainy season) seem to clear the air, however, and Arenal shows itself. We saw it for much of the time during the three days we were there. (Of course we also had the heavy rains.)
