Excellent portrait and expression. I wouldn't want that gaze directed at me. --Melanie (mlynn)

Arra, in what way would you "un-centre" it? I'd be interested in hearing your opinion.

Beautiful Gayle (a bit too centered IMHO)

Gayle, this portrait works awesome in B/W and it is by itself a great shot.

I have this very funny mental image going on. Iso comes in, looks at the photo, nods slightly, half smiles and leaves.
Alexei, Nico, Antidote, Olaf and Bogdan come in, smile big, nod enthusiastically and leave.
Lonnit comes in and I can hear her screams from the other side of the world. She's jumping up and down with excitement, going "OHMIGOD, OHMIGOD!!!!" and everyone else comes back in and says "I'll have what she's having" ;-)

Lonnit, you are a champion, I love it when you get enthusiatic about something.

Gayle, Not sure how to respond? I'm sorry, got distracted for a moment - had to scroll down and peek again. I could look at this all day. You've GOT to make it the screen saver on all your machines at work! LOL! REALLY! Anyway, back to what I was saying... respond by patting yourself on the back. It's an utterly outstanding image and certainly you must know it. You really crossed the line here into a whole new level. I'm hideously jealous!

As for his sister, I can't imagine he wouldn't want the entire world to see this! ~ Lonnit

Absolutely love this one. Everything is just perfect. He's probably a great boss. You're lucky... Bogdan

Lonnit, thank you. I'm not quite sure how to respond to your enthusiasm, but I'm very grateful for it. Funny story.....I asked Phil if he'd pose for me, told him what I wanted and he agreed...but only on the condition that I never, ever give a copy of it to his sister (who is a good friend of mine). He hasn't seen this yet, so maybe he'll change his mind when he does.

Thanks for the comments. Well, knock me down with a feather...praise from Iso ;-)
Nico, I'm not a professional....far, far from it. But thanks for thinking that I could be.
Yes, he's my boss and he was a good sport about this, especially when I told him I didn't want a "pretty" portrait and that I was gonna do it with a wide angle lens.
Guest 06-Jun-2006 19:09
Is that your boss? He's giving you a stern look with tight lips! Great shot Gayle! I see some selection/mask edge problems around his middle finger...?

OMG GAYLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is TRULY OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! Gorgeous BW processing as well - the face just couldn't be more well done. The EYES!! Suberb!!!! Perfection!

Who is he - your boss? Whomever he is, he must have a framed print!! There is just so much character captured here - it makes me want to know the whole story. Very compelling image. Can you hear my standing ovation from under there? Hats off to you, baby... hats off to you!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't drag myself away from it. I stop writing and think I'm done and I try to grab a last peek but it sucks me in and I have to write more!! This is one of the finest character portraits ever entered into the challenges. My heart is racing with excitement for you - you must be feeling on top of the world to have captured such an outstanding, sensational image!!! {{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGE HUGS}}}}}}}}}}!!!! ~ Lonnit

i like this one. this is what b&w is all about...giving attention to the subject matter at hand. superb work.

Excellent portrait, Gayle. And again I find it intriguing that the professionals go with the "horizontal look", rather what the amateur (such as yours truly) might have considered as typical for a portrait. This is the real value I get out of these challenges: learning from those that are wiser and more experienced. That... and having some fun, of course. :-) Regards ~jnconradie
