Light em if you got em

I don't really smoke, but I had this idea for a shot,
so I used a straw for the cigarette.
6 second exposure while free standing in a dark backyard.

Don't worry Rod, you're not totally out of the loop. A lot of the galleries in NY and LA (both where I've frequented the places) do not frame the art. It's still often just mounted. But then it's not "fine art" it's more the contemporary type of "crazy art", so maybe there's a fine line of a difference with framing. Though I have heard people say that bit about always framing art!

By the way Dave, really like the shot!

My main stint in photography was over 35yrs ago & have just taken it up as a hobby again about two years ago so I'm really out of touch with to days fashions.
Nothing wrong with the shot at all Dave, but I just can't cop the frames & coloured borders I see on the internet. Each to their own I spose:-)

aam, thanks.
Rod, you need to get out more. : ) The galleries around here (Mn/USA) frame the
art that they hang on the wall. The mass produced posters are mounted and put into
bins so folks can flip through them. Originals are framed and hung on the wall. I can't
hang it on your wall, so I'll just hang it on your screen. : )
Anyways, if the big problem with this shot is the frame, I'm OK with that. dave.

Excellent shot, and perfect exposure/timing.

Will not comment on the border (I like it).

Was the artist talking internet images Dave? To me there's a big difference. A lot of the art shots that I've seen displayed in galleries years ago were mounted not framed. I have all my shots hanging on me walls in frames but find it very pretentious seeing them made in PS on the screen. It seems more a graphic design thing than a photography thing for on screen & for scrap booking for off screen.

This is most awesome! Congrats to you and your 14 attempts. Great creativity. I love the border as I think it compliments the image... but then I'm not a border person necessarily. I usually ignore the border and just view the image. As a framed print, the border would work well. For this, it doesn't matter to me at all - without the border it works as well. Excellent. The point to this image is your face lit by the light. jano

Thanks guys.
This was the 14th out of 14 shots that I took the night. It's the only one that I kept
my head still.
Rod, an artist that shows his work at a gallery that my wife works at told me, "You
always frame great art." Even though this may not be great, I still think of it as art.
Thanks again folks.

I really like this idea. Very nice shot.

Great concept, great photo. Well done. Did you get it first time or was this result of many attempts first? Just curious. :-)

I don't know about the crop as I sort of like the space. This has caught the lighting on you really well. Good work Dave:-) I think the colour coordinated border is a bit silly.

Dave- Nice. Very creative. The detail, exposure on the face is perfect. I don't know, but maybe crop out some blck on the top and bottom. Just a thought..Nicely done.
