Mountain laurel and rhododendron (both members of the heath family) are often found covering hillsides and ridges in large patches called “laurel slicks”. The plants in these areas are so tightly woven that walking though one without a trail is almost impossible.
Notice the long filaments of the stamen bent over and notched into a tiny dimple in the flower? When an insect, usually a bee, touches a petal the spring is released and the stamen flies out tossing pollen onto the insect. You can watch the action close up using a pencil or a similar object.
