Poor Sue came into direct contact with poison ivy at Tallman Mountain State Park last week for the first time in her life and has been suffering through the blistering rashes and itching. I suggested using Alum to help relieve the itching and to dry the rash up. Rubbing alchohol works, too. Tecnu Oak-N-Ivy Cleaser is a proven product to wash with when first exposed to poison ivy - as are the stems and leaves of Jewelweed rubbed over exposed areas. I have never tried the water-loving weed myself, but I am told that it works as a decent preventative measure if applied before being exposed to the oils of Poison Ivy.
