Putnam Memorial State Park

This is a native wild columbine that appears each Spring in suitable woodland habitats having acidic soil. One frequently sees them growing in the thin soil and leaf litter that accumulates on and between boulders. This is a member of the Buttercup family, the Ranunculaceae, and its nodding flowers are pollinated by hummingbird moths and hummingbirds. It has also been used as a cleanser to provide reief from Poison Ivy.
