April 25, 2006

Today there was a celebration at the hospital for Volunteers Day.
Leigh is a gentleman in the true sense of the word. I've known Leigh for almost as long as I have worked at Children's. He reminds me, through his actions, of the true reason why we are there. Leigh is in a position to do this because he is there for no other than true reasons...he volunteers his time without any desire for compensation or fanfare. Leigh contributes much to the lives of the staff as well as the patients...all through his kind words...most often spoken softly.

Sounds of today that were not so soft were the pounding and sawing that was necessary to make Jeff and Christine's sofa fit downstairs. That was tonight's challenge. Not unlike those little puzzles made of wires, nuts, and screws that you have to maneuver perfectly to disassemble, we needed to shift, push, and pull this sofa perfectly to get it down the hallway, around a bend, and down the stairs. To be honest, it required a saw and hammer as well. I'll have to lend it to Jeff...he made it work! And, with a little reconstructive plastic surgery, that sofa will look as good as new! I had a great time and a wonderful meal with my friends once again...and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
