About four years ago this male Nighthawk decided to make his home in our RV Resort. Being nocturnal he spends the day sleeping while perched on a resident's sundeck railing however promptly after the sun sets he conjures up a few soft vocal sounds; moves to his departure railing; puffs up his feathers a couple times in preparation for flight then ... lifts off and commences to hunt insects throughout the dark hours ... returning again at dawn. The residents have nicknamed him "Jose".
While attempting to shoot photos of Jose at dusk yesterday it was discovered he is so attuned to Nature that the time he awakens each evening is increasing by few minutes ... which corresponds with the sun setting a few minutes later each evening as summer approaches and the length of daylight increases. Here then is Jose, photographed while enjoying his afternoon 'siesta'.
