The following photos are 'full body shots' of Jose and demonstrate how his short feet and bill cause him to resemble a 'ball of compressed feathers' ... in fact at first glance a number of folks have mistaken him for an owl.
With respect to his four year residence at the RV Resort ... I wonder aloud if perhaps he didn't 'set up house' during the summer months when the human population is at a minimum then in or around October when the 'snow birds' began to arrive he simply stayed put ... sharing his residence with us ... for we then invaded 'his space' ... not the other way around.
As time went on his human neighbours adopted him ... in fact, some feel quite protective of him ... and still do ... he has learned we are non-threatening and appears to feel safe and secure. We have somewhat of an unwritten agreement; he lets us view him during the day while sleeping ... and we in turn keep a distance from his personal space ... humans and a creature of the wild sharing living space together ... can't help but ponder if there isn't a message here ...
