Numbat

Yookamurra Sanctuary SA

Numbats are probably the cutest mammals I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of cute mammals (admittedly the ones I usually
notice are human, but they don't have a tongue longer than their heads). Numbats are also critically endangered in the wild
because they are just the right size for a fox's lunchbox. Only in places where foxes are actively excluded are numbats common.
Numbats feed on termites, lapping them up with a sticky tongue.
Once upon a time numbats were widely distributed across inland Australia, but now they occur in just a handful of places
including sanctuaries managed by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.
