Sparkly_m42

Muscat, Oman

Because of heavy light pollution at my home base I used an Astronomik UHC filter + a UV/IR cutoff filter. This combination passes two 40nm bands, around OIII in Blue/Green and around H-alpha in deep Red. Interestingly, the Running Man to the north of M42 does not seem to have much of either spectral line. Unfiltered exposures at a dark site readily show it up, perhaps indicative of much of its light being reflective rather than emissive. In a moment of ennui I thought I'd have a try at adding diffraction spikes using Noel Carboni's Photoshop Astronomy Actions. Nice thing about these post-added spikes is that you can vary the sizes; and you can also leave them out if you do not like them...
