530_3034.jpg

This red footed booby chick, a ball of white fluff, was still in the nest. His right eye, just to the left of his black beak, is peering out at the camera through the twigs. It's easy to tell this is a red footed booby as it is in a nest. Only the red footed booby builds a proper nest, both the blue footed and the masked booby nest on the ground. Interestingly, the blue footed booby male will, as part of the courtship ritual, offer the female a twig --- nest building material.
