Elaphe obsoleta (grey ratsnake), Decatur county, Florida

When found on roads, ratsnakes often freeze in this kinked position, which makes them look remarkably like long sticks. If harassed, they can turn and strike in any direction from this position. It hurts for a minute or two, but their bite is completely harmless.
